NAISH RIDERS TAKE TOP SPOTS AT RED BULL KING OF THE AIR 2000
Kolla följande press release:
Complete domination for the second year running!
The Red Bull King of the Air Kiteboarding Championships took place October 9 through 16 at Hookipa, Maui, Hawaii. In conditions ranging from 15 to 30 knots, with waves in the 3 to 8 foot range, the Naish Kiteboarding Team dominated all disciplines sweeping the event by taking the top spots in each category. Using the latest AR-5’s on a variety of board styles, our team riders showcased the innovative, high-performance gear available from Naish in 2001.
The hotly contested Men’s Freestyle prize was taken with ease by the colorful Flash Austin. Flash, who now rides Naish Boards and Kites exclusively, showed the rest of the field why he is the top kiteboarder in the world today. Second place went to Robby Naish, who still knows how to kick some ass after all these years of competition. Third place finisher Chris Gilbert is becoming a serious force to be reckoned with on a wakeboard. This finish, along with his exceptional results in Europe this past summer, proves that Chris will continue to excel in competition and innovation over the next year. Completing the top four was last year’s Hang Time winner Max Bo, whose fluid riding style and enigmatic personality make him a favorite on the pro circuit.
Men’s Hang Time was also won by Austin, earning him the title of King Of The Air. Second was Naish, who swept the event last year. Maui-based Mauricio Toscano proved that immense hang time was possible on a wakeboard, taking third place. In fourth place was Naish Kiteboarding design guru Don Montague, who came up through the preliminaries knocking out many notables to join his teammates in the winner’s circle.
In the women’s division it was another Naish clean sweep. The absence of last year’s winner Anne Pegon of France left the field wide open for new faces. Wakeboarder Julie Prochaska dominated both disciplines taking first in both Freestyle and Hang Time. Julie set a new women’s world record in Hang Time at this event – she is definitely going to be the one to watch in 2001, as her riding has evolved consistently over the past few months. Oahu’s Marigold Zoll was a new face on the podium. Her experience in the waves was evident as she carved her directional board to a second place finish in both disciplines. Rounding out the women’s winners was Kat Tracy, another wakeboarder with aggressive style who is taking women’s kiteboarding to new limits.
We would like to congratulate all of our team riders on their exceptional results and efforts. With the establishment of a Kiteboarding Pro Tour for 2001, it is certain that the Naish Kiteboarding team will continue to excel and dominate events throughout the next season.
