Just visited the Salon Nautique in Paris: I have sent some pictures to Jose, so hopefully he will post them soon on http://www.nonosierra.com
* EXOCET is showing a prototype of an olympic-formula hybrid. The board looks like a formula board with a length of 3m. It has a huge fin-like dagger of around 1m. The board has huge hyperbola cut-outs. Patrice told me that he and Jean-marie (the shaper) are aiming to have the board point higher in non planing conditions then current mistral one-design, but keeping the fun and exciting formula performance in planning condition.
Is this the future of Olympic racing in 2008?* The new EXOCET slalom boards were also looking radical, amazing deco and this 1 step regress around the fin looks awnsome. The slalom 55 is a rocket perfect for breaking your personnel speedrecord.
* Select is also showing some new formula fins, beside the “old” but prooven Elite R01 they have now also the Elite R03, R03DC and R03DCwide. The last ones(DC) are looking a lot like Boogie’s fin’s (C3).
* I saw the Nitro 4 with this pacifix reinforcements. Looks clean, but wonder why they have not used it in the 2nd panel from the bottom. The sail is one of the eyecatchers on the expo.
* The new fiberspar formula boom was on the N4, with new front, new tubes and the widetail endpiece. Only the price!! 1250 euro or about 1250 USD for a boom is just too much.
* Nautix did also show their new formula boom with carbon frontend and high modulus carbon tubes, making it one of the lightest and rigid booms on the market.
* Hope Jose puts also the picture from RS3 and Simmer Formula proto on his site.
Interesting to see: RS3 has a double X-ply luffpanel, Simmer TP has only monofilm panels
going all the way to the sleeve.
Knowing the durability problems after a lot of rigging, unrigging, you can imagine what is the best (durability wise), dito for N4 versus N4KPRO.* AHD was not showing a new Formula board, but new colours.
* At the Bic stand we were missing the formula 1.5
* Boards and More did not show any of their products (3 th year in a row).
* Starboard, you have all seen and heard about those.

Aloha,
The best improvements in the RS-3 are the things you can’t see… But top is flatter on bigger sizes.
First, the 3-piece batten system uses less rod and more carbon tube. This makes the battens not only lighter but also more aerodynamic, as they flex differently and stabilize the shape better.
Second, the shape has been refined for better racing performance. The only visible aspect of this is the two X-ply luff panels, which adds not only two more shaping points on each batten for more precise leading edge shape and stability, but also durability for rigging. The clew and foot panels also incorporate more X-ply for extra durability in high stress areas.
The third improvement will only be visible once the 2003 racing season begins, when we see how well the sails work.
Best regards, Kevin , NP Maui
