Hej,
It depends mainly when you want to go there. During the summer, there is not so much wind, and you can only rely on the thermal breezes. L’Almanarre is a good spot. I was there one week-end last summer, and it was perfect with some freeride gear and a 7.0 sail. The good thing regarding l’Amanarre is that if the wind is from NW to SW, it is a good spot. If the wind is from E, you just have to drive 5 km to the other side of the peninsula to get very good conditions. Anyway, there are plenty of campings (mostly for windsurfers) located just in the middle of the peninsula, so that you can choose your spot easily depending on the wind direction (I recommend going to the Porquerolles islands from the peninsula, it is wonderful).
During autumn/winter/spring, each time there is some low pressure system travelling from West to East, you get this extremely strong wind called Mistral (usually between 70 and 120 km/h, i.e. 20 and 33 m/s in the gusts) from N-NW. This wind is due to the fact that the cold air of the low pressure system cannot go over the Alps, and thus flows down towards the sea. The good thing is that due to this strong wind, the sky clears up very rapidly, but the bad thing is that the wind is offshore and very strong, i.e. this might be a bit dangerous sometimes.

http://www.directwind.com/affspots.php?areg=mediterran%E9eI used to go out on the “Etang de Berre”, which is a huge lake located close to the Marignane airport (close to Marseille). The lake is so huge, that you get pretty nice waves there when the Mistral is blowing. The advantage is that you feel safer since you are on a lake. Even though, never go out alone when there is this Mistral wind, and always listen to the weather forecast, which is pretty accurate for the Mistral (the longer the Mistral blows, the stonger it is, and it is very common to get this wind for 3-4 days in a row).
