  World Champion Kevin Pritchard Chooses Starboard

  After seven successful years with Bic Sport, Kevin Pritchard has chosen to join the ever-expanding Starboard development program.

  “Kevin is a great inspiration for us at Starboard, and we look forward to working with him on our shapes. With our research crew, Tiesda You, Jim Drake, Jean Louis Colmas, Scott McKercher, Colin Siferlen and Ben Severene, we are ready to take windsurfing to a new level. We see a comeback of slalom in the future and Kevin also fits well into this development. Kevin‚s race and wave sailing dedication, is second to none, and we feel together we can bring new blood into the sport.

  Starboards future goal is simply to ensure that we can deliver tomorrows boards yesterday and to set in action any activities we possibly can to evolve the attention and interest level for windsurfing. We wish to increase the number of windsurfers by 5 times the current level by 2007 and we are setting in place large scale programs to achieve this goal. “Says Starboards Svein Rasmussen.”

  I have been watching Starboard grow as a company throughout the years. The positive energy that Starboard brings to windsurfing is great. I am happy to work with a company that is as passionate about windsurfing as I am. Starboard‚s innovative product line has some exciting areas that could revolutionise the sport. “I hope to bring many new World Titles to the Starboard family!” said Kevin Pritchard.

  MP: Tell us about your new relationship? When did all this come about?
  KP: I’m pretty excited about the whole thing. It’ll be my first board switch in my entire career. It all came about when I started talking to Svein, in December.

  MP: You’ve been with Bic for seven years? What did they have to say?
  KP: They weren’t too ecstatic about it, but that’s the way it goes. It was a big decision for me.

  MP: Clearly you plan to be windsurfing competitively for the next ten years? Can you tell us about your future plans?
  KP: Yeah, I plan on winning for as long as I can. I love what I am doing, and want to do it forever

  MP: Will you be designing the new Starboard Formula boards? How is this going to work?
  KP: Phil and I will be going to Thailand to work on the boards. So far, I think they are pretty good, and that they won’t need too much work.

  MP: How do you see yourself fitting into the Starboard Program?
  KP: I really like what I see in Starboard. It reminds me a lot of the Gaastra/TheTeam program, in that their whole crew is passionate about windsurfing. Starboard is setting the world on fire, and wants to get more and more people involved with windsurfing. It’s great to be working with a company that’s pushing so hard.

  MP: People have said that the only reason you win is because you are so good. I think we all know you are good, but if you don’t have the right equipment, you’re dead in the water, right? Tell us about what it takes. You worked pretty hard on your racing boards. Will you take all that development to Starboard?
  KP: I think equipment is key for racing. I want to win, and I think that Starboard will help me do that.

  MP: I know you’ve been riding some of the Starboards. Tell us how they are going. I know Phil was pretty fast on them in Germany!
  KP: I have always liked the way the Starboard rode. It fits my style well, so I am looking forward to racing on them.

  MP: Thanks, Bro. I wish you all the best this year. I know you can do it again. Don’t disappoint me.
  KP: Thanks. I hope to see you on the podium with me!!!
