Att trimma våggrejor för Klagans Speedhelg?
All this talk about rigging and technique (never really read this forum) has got me interested in throwing my wave gear at the speed course to see how fast (slow) I actually sail.
As I only have wave gear should I rig it differently for real speed? My sails are typically flat, like a Simmer Icon. EG, should I throw up the biggest size I could imagine handling, extra downhaul, maybe even negative outhaul to try and force come kind of belly into the sail… or just set it as normal?
My wave board has a flat tail rocker, so is kinda quick.
Last week, after Klaghamns KM when the wind finally came in, I had a flat water blat with my 6m where I would normally have used my 4.7/5.3. It felt like I was going faster than I normally do but no matter where I placed my harness lines I felt I was ‘man-handling’ the rig and found it difficult to get it all balanced. The sail just felt over-powered. I often have heaps of downhaul in my sails, so am sure there was ‘normal’ downhaul as specified for the sail.
Is this what it normally feels like when trying to go for speed, or is it just the limitation of the type of sails I am using? Admittedly I didn’t really do any down wind speed runs, so my angle of sailing was typical free ride sailing.
Any tips/insights are more than welcome. Sorry for all the words. 🙂
Svenska går alldeles utmärkt för min del, är bara lat när det gäller att skriva.
Tack,
