Over 200 competitors will arrive today in Florida for the annual Midwinters windsurfing festival, which includes Formula racing for beginner level to the pro level.Already at the race site is Formula Racer from Poland Wojtek Brzozowski who has been training and tuning for a few days. Phil McGain and Matt Pritchard arrived early yesterday to carry out a Formula Clinic for 17 lucky competitors. Gonzalo Costa Hoevel was out on the water yesterday going fast on his new equipment. Devon Boulon and Chris McGrath were tuning also in the light winds. French race Patrice Beleoch was seen with his new Aerotech sails and Exocet boards, is set to make a big inpact in 2003 with his new endeavours.
Arriving today will World Champion Kevin Pritchard and runner up Antione Albeau who will for sure be going head to head for the top positions at the event.
Winds are forecast to be light for the event so it will be interesting to see how all the new equipment performs.

The Calema Midwinters, 28 February to 2 March: Neil Pryde RS3 wins every race!!!
A crowd of 170 racers descended on Florida last week-end for the first major Formula Windsurfing Event of the year, the Calema Midwinters. 6 races were completed in light to marginal conditions testing both the competitors & new equipment alike.
At the end of the competition, it was the new RS3 that one every race of the Men’s Open Division!! Antoine Albeau (Neil Pryde, AHD) was flying out the gates and won 3 out of the first 4 races. Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Neil Pryde, Starboard) managed to take the 2nd race from Antoine, while Jimmy Diaz (Neil Pryde, Mistral) & Wojtek Brzozowski (Neil Pryde, Starboard) finished strongly winning one each of the last two races!!

Despite a few exceptions, most of the races were made on the new RS3 12,5s in shifty conditions – the wind shifting as much as 30 degrees during some of the races! However, the conditions were not to out do the most consistent performers, both Antoine & Gonzalo only finishing one race between them outside the top 5.
Being the first major Formula Windsurfing Event of the year it was an interesting test of the new season’s equipment. With 6 of the top 10 racers from the last Formula World Championships present, the racing was definately very competitive.
