Spark7 Surfworldcup pres. by Eskimo, Podersdorf 5.-8.5.05
The first day of one of the most important events of the tour 05, gave the riders a very
windy welcome. The starting field again showed all the European top riders in freestyle
windsurfing, and it was again the young talented dutch rider Kevin Mevissen (JP/NP) who
took the victory in the first single elimination.
On the way to his victory Kevin (JP/NP) beated last years number 4 Tine Slabe (F2/Arrows)
as well as vice European champion 04 Norman Günzlein (JP/NP) and Remko De Werd
(Fanatic/Gaastra).
The final showed an outstanding performance of both riders Kevin (JP/NP) and the winner
of the Hyeres event Andre Paskowski (F2/North Sails). The decision was very close as both
riders showed all the new moves like Grubbies, Flakas and Switch Stance clew first
variations. Kevin (JP/NP) showed a little bit better performance especially of the very high
technical moves, so a planning Flaka-Diabolo saved the victory for him.
The winner of Hyeres, Andre Paskowski (F2/North Sails) eliminated the super strong
performing French rider Leo Ray (Naish), as well as the very improved Swedish rider
Andreas Olanderson (JP/NP).
Remko De Werd (Fanatic/Gaastra) winner of the event in 2002 again showed his big
potential so he went through the fleet without problem, only Kevin (JP/NP) could stop him
in a very outstanding semi-final heat.
But the real surprise of the first day was shown by Swedish rider Andreas Olanderson
(JP/NP). He eliminated French champion Antony Ruenes (Tabou/Gaastra), as well as the
European champion 04, Matteo Guazzoni (RRD/Simmer). In the semi-final Andreas (JP/NP)
lost against Andre, who put out the heat of his life against Andreas (JP/NP).
As the wind continued to blow the first round of the double elimination could be done,
bringing the Austrian riders Frank Lewisch (Tabou/Gaastra) and Michi Rossmeier
(F2/Arrows) back into the fight of the Podersdorf title.
