Öland / Gotland in May – places to stay, etc.

I’m planning road trip to Sweden during first week of May and would like to know your opinions about good windy spots. I’m travelling with my wife who doesn’t kite and the trip should fancy also her. This would mean beautiful places, good food, nice places to sleep, etc.
We are arriving from Finland to Sweden by ferry and travelling with car. I have been couple times in Varberg but would like to visit in other places this time. I have heard that there is good possibility for sea breeze in Öland but what about place itself? Based on pictures the dominant wind in Sandviken is cross-off and the water is shallow for couple hundred meters. Good place for freestyle, eh? What about location itself? Is there any accommodation near the beach, maybe even in walking distance? Will there be other things to see for 3-5 days? Walking trails, bird life, nature, etc? I assume that there is almost always other kiters as well?
The other possibility would be travel to Gotland. I would suppose that there are good chances to get some windy days at spring time. How near the spots are to each other and what would be the good place to stay? Is it hard to find spots? If you compare Gotland to Öland during May, what would you choose? Is there commonly others kiting in spots? I’m advanced kiter but it is always nice if there is others when you kite in new place.

Hi Jukka,
As for wind I’d say that you’re more likely to get got wind on Öland. They rely a lot on seabreezes and in May they usually get them very often. Also the water will be warmer on Öland.
However Gotland will probably be a little more scenic and have a
little more history than Öland. Check out the “Rauks”

Visby Ringmur etc.This page http://spotguide.kicks-ass.net/ is good for finding kitespots, just choose area (område) and wind direction (vindriktning) and it’ll show you most spots around.
There will be other kiters around on both Gotland and Öland I’d say.
