What a history!
The world of windsurfing has a rich but short history and two names stand out: Robby Naish and Mistral.Robby Naish won his first World title at 13… and the rest is history. Robby was born for the water and has not only excelled in all aspects of windsurfing whether course racing, freestyle or slalom but he has been an innovator and an idol in his favourite arena: waveriding.
Robby’s link with Mistral has been a famous one not only due to his victories out on the water but also due to his tireless work behind the scenes in product development. Here, with the tremendous double handed support of a great team, Mistral has been given the tools to stay at the peak of windsurfing for nearly a quarter of a century.
And as if this were not enough, Robby has shown himself to be a man of the people, a real draw at exhibitions and regatta sites, where he has chatted to thousands of his and Mistral’s fans and where he has given away tens of thousands of autographs, signed across famous images of himself in action on Mistral equipment.
Just as waves move inexorably to the shore, time also moves on and Robby and Mistral have decided to take different tracks: Robby to concentrate on his ever expanding business interests and Mistral to re-focus its positioning in the world of windsurfing with new products and different target groups. This means that Robby will no longer be flying Mistral’s flag from the 1st of July 2001.
Windsurfing has been made the richer by this long-standing partnership and the powerful mix of an exceptional sailor with a world-renowned brand will not only become legendary in windsurfing history but also provides us now with a source of real inspiration.
We at Mistral wish Robby all the best for the future,
